My sister, Brandy Schrag was born with cerebral palsy, though she never let it stop her from achieving her goals. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelors degree in health science with an emphasis in respiratory therapy. She has worked in all areas of the hospital from the sleep lab to the neonatal intensive care unit, which was her favorite place by far.     In May 2011, Brandy became ill while at work. She went to the ER because her symptoms were similiar to that of a stroke. While she wasnt suffering from a stroke Brandy knew there was something wrong. She traveled to the Mayo clinic and also sought out the opinions of doctors at the Chiari Institute in New York. There it was determined that Brandy was suffering from Chiari Malformation which is a condition where brain tissue extends into your spinal canal. Depending on the type and severity, chiari malformation can cause a number of problems. She initially had surgery on her brain  and cervical spine to correct the malformation. After this she was also diagnosed with Elher-Danlos syndrome. this syndrome is a group of inherited disorders that affect ones connective tissues such as your skin, joints and blood vessel walls. Issues from this disorder including bladder issues, pain and loss of sensation are requiring her to have another surgery before these issues get way more severe. The neurosurgeon that will be doing this surgery is in Maryland. the cost for this surgery and for traveling expenses is quite expensive. At first she thought she had til January to do the surgery but with symptoms becoming greater the doctor has requested she come by the middle of November which leaves just a few weeks to come up with the costs. Once she is there she will have to stay for a minimum of 3 weeks leaving her 2 young boys ( one which has austism) to also be cared for during her stay there. Im reaching out to any and everyone who could help her with these expenses. We're hoping one day she can be healed but until then we just keep reaching out and praying thru this journey along the way....
