Hi, Fearons gym are holding a White Collar Boxing event on Saturday 30th September 2024 to raise money for Levi Dewey, who had both legs amputated after contracting septicaemia. The fighters will be competing for the FCCB (Fearons charity championship belt), whoever raises the most money will win this belt. Please ensure when you donate to pick the team member so we can see who has raised the most.  In the updates you will find the names of photos of all our fighters  Here is Levi’s story… Levi was a fit, fun, healthy 20 year old living his best life until the 7th of December 2024 when he was rushed into Royal Derby hospital suffering with breathing difficulties and flu like symptoms. His condition rapidly deteriorated in a very short space of time, he went into septic shock and multi organ failure. The cause of this was later found to be influenza B and pneumococcal pneumonia. He continued to deteriorate in Derby and his only hope was being accepted at Glenfield hospital in Leicester to receive ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and full organ support. The doctors said levi was the sickest patient in the country at that time and was given less than a 30% chance of surviving the night. He was on the maximum support they could offer. Levi spent 20 days on ECMO, 14 of which were in an induced coma, fighting this cruel condition when the odds were very much against him. His organ support was gradually weaned and after 31 days he was taken off the ventilator and his body was no longer reliant on machines. On the 9th January he was moved back to Derby for his ongoing care and was informed that due to the severity of the sepsis, he required bilateral, below knee amputations of his legs. The surgery took place on the 24th of January, 2 days before Levi turned 21 years old. Over the last few months, Levi has been in and out of hospital for different appointments and has undergone many operations on his knees in order to save them. Thanks to the help of the amazing staff at Royal Derby hospital, Levi must now wait for his skin grafts to heal and then will proceed with building up his strength and hopefully begin to get fitted for his prosthetics. Levi remains a fun, loving, charismatic lad who is so grateful to be alive after this life changing event. We want Levi to have the best possible quality of life as an amputee and therefore want to raise money to help him learn to walk. We would like to provide him with the best possible prosthetics available so he is able to live an independent life, enjoying as many activities as he did before this tragic event changed his life.
