By donating to this creative initiative, you will be participating in the long-term strengthening of bilingualism for children ages 0-4 in Canada. This is important because bilingualism is an asset to the brain development of children. You will also be contributing to the official launch of my new company, MESSIMBA CREATIVE.My name Wise Atangana; I am an artist and educator originally from Cameroon in central Africa. I have lived in Ottawa, Canada since 2013. I have just launched a cultural and creative organization – MESSIMBA CREATIVE – to stimulate creativity and artistic innovation in Ottawa-Gatineau. In the project that I am fundraising for, I use traditional music to enrich the vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation of children learning French. The project is called "MAFOLO BABY Volume 1" and it involves producing a package that will include a double CD of English and French African lullabies and a book with the lyrics written out in both languages. My inspiration for this project is my daughter, Kaia, who is 20 months old. She loves the traditional songs that I sing and play for her, and I am impressed each and every day by her linguistic, rhythmic and musical development. In fact, MAFOLO BABY is a concept that is already underway: as part of the 2015 autumn programming of the Glebe Community Centre, several couples and their babies aged 0 to 15 months are participating in workshops every Thursday to learn African lullabies. At the request of parents in the Glebe, a second 10-week session of workshops is already scheduled as part of the community centre’s winter programming, from January to March 2016. To develop the MAFOLO BABY concept and to give an opportunity for the other families in Ottawa – and even more broadly in Canada – to access this experience from their homes, I am looking for $2500 to produce the first copies of the double-disc set and the accompanying book of lyrics. My ambition is to produce a new volume of"MAFOLO BABY" every year in December, starting this December 15th, 2015. But to get this project started, I need some financial support to get the initiative going. The money raised will be used to contribute to the recording costs of the music (ex. studio time), the design of the book (ex. illustration costs), and to pay for the production and printing of the first copies of the CDs and books. The profit from sellling these first copies will then be reinvsted to produce additional copies. My goal is to produce and sell at least 1000 copies of the CDs and books in Ottawa before the end of 2015. This will represent the first official project of MESSIMBA CREATIVE.Thank you for supporting this project. Thank you for helping me realize my ambition, which is to put music and artisitic and cultural education at the centre of developing bilingualism in children, which will be the kickoff project of my organization. For anyone who contributes $20 or more to this initiative, I offer you a free electronic versin of the album (in English and French); I will send you the link to download it as soon as the album is ready for distribution. Thank you!
