Hello, I am Danielle, a fourth-generation homesteader with an earnest desire to have my great-grandfather's barn restored and preserved. Big Daddy was a farmer who never finished school because he had to work to help his mother to provide for himself and his six siblings. Through hard work and toil and much sacrifice, he managed to acquire a few acres of land to house his wife and children along with some of his siblings and their children as well. His dream was to have a place where all of his posterity would always have a place to call home and build upon and I am that dream realized; a dream that he never got to witness, but my great-grandmother did before her passing. There have been many meetings at this flue-cure tobacco barn, many stories told, many hours spent hanging and watching the tobacco and many memories made. This is the last barn on the property; the others have been torn down and burned down, but I have been trying to hold on to this beautiful piece of history and pay homage to those that have labored and laughed while working at this barn. These flue-cure tobacco barns are becoming extinct and this is my last ditch effort to save the last one on the homestead; I just need a little help. The ultimate goal is to restore the outside as the original barn and restore the inside as a workshop for my small furniture re-fashion hobby; to have the first generation meet the fourth generation in the same space and where the old meets the new. We have lost two generations; they have passed on, but I would still like to honor Big Daddy(James) and MeMe(Olivia) in this very special way.
