What was once simply a fun weekend for family and friends to gather and volunteer in Arcadia for the town’s festival, Arcadia Daze, has now turned into one we will remember for a very different reason. Our dear friend, Bernie Howard, was walking the annual Arcadia 5k that raises money for the Lions Club with all of his daughters, two grandsons and other family and friends, when he stated his chest felt heavy. He was nearly to the end of the race when he suddenly collapsed to the ground and stopped breathing. With the help of the amazing paramedics and people in the community, they were able to perform CPR and shock his heart back into rhythm before transporting him to the hospital via ambulance. Bernie had testing done which confirmed he suffered a heart attack and has three very severely blocked arteries. He will very soon need triple, or possibly quadruple, bypass surgery performed for a long term solution. Due to all of the upcoming medical bills, we are requesting any generous donation amount that you are able to give to help cover these costs. If you are unable to donate, sending good vibes for Bernie and sharing this post would be equally as great! We appreciate your generosity and willingness to help such a selfless man and his wonderful family during this difficult time. Thank you, The Smith Family
