Many of us know Beau Hanson (center) to have a bundle of energy, an infectious smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. Perhaps your kids played rec sports together or you watched him grow up on the Tartan football field. Today, his friends know him to be hanging out listening to 80’s rock, playing his guitar, and sporting his big cowboy hat and boots. Beau’s family and friends mean everything to him so it’s no surprise that every year he made sure he had the time off to go on their family summer vacation to northern Minnesota. The Accident Just a few weeks ago on June 25, the very first day of this year’s family vacation, Beau decided to take a late-night dip into the lake. After jumping off the dock (something he’s done many times before), he realized something went terribly wrong. Due to lower water levels this season, he hit his head and sustained a severe neck injury. Through the fast actions of Char and a family friend (who happened to be a nurse), they were able to stabilize Beau in the water preventing further damage. The Journey Thus Far Beau was immediately airlifted to Fargo’s Sanford Hospital where doctors performed surgery to stabilize his neck and spine (C4-C6). The injury to his neck has left him paralyzed chest down with some movement in his arms and he is breathing on his own. For the last couple of weeks, Beau has been recovering with various therapies and can sit in a wheelchair for a few hours at a time. On Tuesday, July 11, Beau was well enough to be transferred back to the Twin Cities where he is continuing his rehab at St. Paul Regions. Looking Forward Beau has spent the past two years working at Menards while attending St. Paul College where he is one of the top students in their electrician program. We all know Beau to be a fighter, his perseverance and grit will see him through this. He will NEVER give up on his recovery and follow his professional ambitions. As you can imagine, this has been very traumatic for Scott, Char, Josie, and Lacey. They are going to need the help and support of family, friends, and the community to see them through this very difficult road ahead. They are asking for prayers and positive thoughts as they navigate this new reality with Beau. Funds for Beau This LFEBridge is being set up to help lessen the financial burden tied to Beau’s accident, and all donations will go directly to Char to use as they navigate his recovery and long-term care. Any donations will be used to support the Hanson’s in the following ways. Making immediate adaptive home modifications (bathroom remodel, ramps, etc.) Medical needs not covered by insurance (wheelchair and mobility devices, medical equipment and supplies, adaptive vehicle, copays for ongoing medical care, etc.) Miscellaneous expenses for Scott & Char as they make daily trips to and from rehab (parking expenses, meals, etc.) Message from the Family Please pray for Beau and use this site to leave encouraging messages. We are still very overwhelmed so please do not be offended if we don’t answer calls or texts at this time. Hopefully, in time we will be ready to share more. I know many of you will find this news a bit shocking, so please know that we are very grateful for each one of you reading our story and providing support. Keep praying for Beau to regain the full use of his arms and legs through his continuous therapies and modern advances in adaptive care. (This medical fundraiser has been set up by Peg Curtiss on behalf of the family for Beau's recovery. This is the official LFEBridge for the Hanson family.)
