Hi, my name is Don Tyrrell and am urgently in need of your help. I am in desperate need of back surgery. I am 71 years old and have just come through a quadruple bypass surgery, and don’t have the funds needed for my back procedure. Whenever possible I try to do what’s right. I served as an usher and a eucharistic minister at my church for 20 years when I lived in Maryland and am very active in my church here in Virginia. I also was a member of our local Rotary Club here in Virginia for 18 years and served as President from 2006-2007. We have a very active club. The back issues all started about 10 years ago, after 20 years in construction. The pain was so bad, I was diagnosed with severe nerve problems. I was given a series of shots which helped for about 2 ½ years, then nothing. About two years ago my doctor tried a whole new series of shots with no results. About a year ago, I had to try again, and this time my doctor concluded it wasn’t nerve problems, but disk problems. Five Disks to be exact! The surgery the Richmond doctors wanted to perform was very invasive, 5 ½ hour surgery, a 12-inch incision in the front and 4 inches in the back, then 5 days in the hospital. This highly invasive surgery only has a chance of 50% improvement, and the cost is well over $95,000. While preparing for this surgery, the doctors found four blockages in my chest, which I believe was a divine intervention. My widow maker vein was 90% blocked and the other three were 75% blocked. I was told that if I had gone under like I was, I had about an 85% chance of NOT waking up. After a great deal of research, I found a laser surgery institute in Florida, (Deuk Spine Institute, 7955 Spyglass Hill Rd., Melbourne, FL 32940) with a record of zero complaints with over 3,000 procedures and people were not healed, but out of pain the next day.The healing occurs over the next 12 months. You can go online and watch the procedure, Dr. Deuk’s videos all of his procedures. They clean out the disks with a laser so your disks can heal naturally. The one-and-a-half-hour procedure, followed by one-hour recovery and you go home. This is done as an outpatient procedure with the cost of the surgery, hospital charges, Doctors fees, LFEBridge fees, hotels, food and car expenses at $53,000. I had been so excited about having this procedure done, hoping to live a life without this excruciating pain, until today, 08/04/2024. Today I was told that Medicare won’t pay a dime because the procedure isn’t done in a hospital. My supplemental coverage, (Fed Blue Cross, Blue Shield) said that they couldn’t pay because the Fed Blue Cross Blue Shield is supposed to be a supplement for what Medicare doesn’t cover and since Medicare won’t pay anything, there is nothing for them to supplement. I sold health insurance and Medicare coverage for 10 years and this is nothing but BS because they don’t want to pay. Whatever happened to just doing what is right? I live on an income of $45,000 and support myself, my wife, (who has her health issues) and our two dogs, (our children) which isn’t enough to raise the money for the surgery or pay off a loan if I were able to get one. All my life I have tried to help people in need, but this time I need your help, prayers, and support. There is an opening in the second week of September, but I have to raise the funds first. I have no idea how long it is to the next opening, so please consider the urgency as well as the cause and please help by giving as much as you can.
