We are Holli and Justin Steffen. We are trying to raise funds for the McQueen family. Justin grew up with Ryan and now I am blessed to have become friends with Jewels. They are a wonderful family and have been so blessed with three happy healthy boys. Jewels (aka Monica) had a surprise a few months ago! She found out that she was pregnant! This was a super exciting but also scary journey she and Ryan would take on. You see, she had recently been diagnosed with cancer. They were in the process of evaluating and praying about what treatment to take when she found out she was expecting. The pregnancy was difficult from the begining. Jewels was very strong. Early on they thought that they had lost this baby. After seeing the doctor and having some testing done, she found out that she had passed the cancerous tumor and not her baby! It truly was a miracle! The pregnancy continued and they found out that they were expecting a little princess! The brothers were all so very excited! A sister! We got a text from Jewels on October 15, 2015, (at 27 weeks) informing us that she was being admitted to Scripps and then transferred to UCSD Medical Center because she was in labor and that her water was about to break. Our knees hit the floor and we began to pray again for this precious little miracle. We know God has a plan for this baby girl. They were told that if their little baby girl was born this early, that she would have a 70% survival rate.Little Mia Grace McQueen made her debut on October 16, 2015, at 8:10PM. She weighed 2 pounds and she was 13 inches long. She surprised the entire operating room with her sweet little cry. She impressed all of the doctors with her strength! As expected, Mia has regressed and is needing more assistance to survive and function. She is down to 1.6 pounds. She is a fighter and has shown us all from the begining how strong she is. Jewels was released from the hospital and is now home with her boys continuing her recovery. She needs to be at the NICU as much as possible to help aid in Mia's continued strengthening and growth. A baby needs her mother. Baby Mia has a very long road ahead of her. The doctors are estimating that she will have a 5 month stay in the NICU. The family of six will be needing some assistance. The hospital is a 1.5 - 2.5 hour drive, depending on traffic. Mia is not strong enough to be moved to a closer NICU.The McQueen family would be extremely blessed with financial help for gas, food, lodging, and especially medical bills that will start trickling in in the coming weeks. Please keep precious Mia in your prayers and consider helping the McQueen family through a very difficult time that no one ever is ready for.
