Jack Owen Evans was born on the 29th of June 2024 weigh just 1085 grams at 27 weeks old at Perth Children’s Hospital. The story of how little Jack ended up at Perth Children’s Hospital started several weeks previously. Jacks Mum (Rachel) and Dad (Jonathan) have had quiet the journey before Jacks arrival. In May 2024 Jacks Grandmother Irene sadly passed away weeks before he was born, after the funeral one of Irene’s sons Josh Van Magill decided to embark on a cycling journey, riding his bike from Sydney to Perth as a way to grieve and spend time remembering his mum. Several days after leaving Josh was joined by Jacks Dad, Jonathan in his 4WD as a support vehicle as Josh cycled his was across Australia, after two weeks and gruelling winds and freezing temperatures, they were within a days ride from Perth. At the same time Rachel (Jacks Mum) flew into Perth from Sydney with their two other children (6 and 3) to watch Josh finish his amazing journey, shortly after arriving in Perth Rachel’s waters broke at 26 weeks gestation and immediately was admitted to hospital. Jonathan rushed to hospital expecting the immediate arrival of little Jack. Baby Jack however was not ready to arrive and Rachel was admitted to hospital with the plans to transfer her back home to Sydney and Jonathan and their other kids flew back to Sydney expecting Rachel’s arrival however just prior to getting the ok to transfer, Rachel caught Covid and little Jack picked up an infection, it was decided that an emergency C section was the best chance for little Jack who was welcomed to the world at just 1023 grams and 27 weeks old. Jonathan and his other kids flew back to Perth to be with Rachel and baby Jack. We need your help as unfortunately Jonathan and Rachel do not qualify for Ronald McDonald house due to circumstances and them travelling to Perth. Little Jack will be at Perth hospital for long time until he is strong enough to be transferred home to Sydney, until then however Jonathan and Rachel have months of travel/accommodation/meals that they need to sort out. All the while trying to keep life normal for their other two children.
