Original post, fundraiser 2019 Hello Everyone, I am reaching out to you today for my best friend Alex and her awesome, young family. If you were ever to meet them you would understand why I am the one organizing this campaign. They are the kindest people who always give and would never come forward to make this request. On October 16th, 2019 their world was turned upside down when a routine 6 months ultrasound revealed that Baby Bella is suffering from a birth defect called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Bella is an otherwise healthy baby with normal heart, brain, and spine function, but her condition creates an abnormality in the diaphragm which allows part of the organs from the belly to move into the chest cavity near the lungs. The most recent ultrasound at Iowa City Stead Family Children Hospital showed that Bella’s will need immediate critical care and surgery once born, as she won’t be able to breath on her own. Without corrective surgery and treatment, there is a 0% chance of survival, but the surgeons feel very confident in their ability to correct the organ placement and close the hole in the diaphragm. While this prognosis after treatment is positive, not all of the required medical procedures are covered by insurance. In addition to the treatment the family will incur a heavy financial burden from loss of work days, travel to meet with specialists, and daily expenses we all face. At this point, we would very much request that you would pray, donate, and share. The healing process may take months to years and it comes with an extensive financial strain. Please take just a moment to help this special young family in coping with this unexpected turn of events. I just ask you to please donate and help in spreading the word to help us lessen the stress and financial strain this life event will cause. Every amount helps.
