Art Cunningham is a Metis Elder, from Calgary Alberta, is a Knowledge Keeper for Region 3 Metis Nation, the founder of Round Table Consulting focused on Indigenous business development and former Aboriginal Relations professional for TransCanada. Art has been instrumental in bridging and building relationships between Indigenous communities and industry for over 30 years. In retirement, Art continues to touch, support and provide wisdom and knowledge to support community resource development. While representing the Metis Nation and Metis Crossing at a Golf Tournament on June 7th, Art was involved in a very serious collision as a passenger in a golf cart. The golf cart he was sitting in was hit head-on by another cart. This collision caused significant injuries to his upper right arm and lower left leg. Art is now in recovery but immobile due to the injuries sustained to his right side. Mobility on his left side was already limited due to a stroke several years ago. A lawsuit is underway but could take years to settle. In the meantime, the family is in need of financial support to cover much needed, but very expensive 24/7 homecare, medical expenses, and an electronic bed as well as other medical equipment required to get him moving. These costs will have to be covered until we reach a settlement which could take 1-2 years. His daughter, Jen is his primary caregiver but is unable to provide medical support around the clock. We are hesitant, but it seems like GoFund Me is our best option to get him the medical support he needs to recover at home.
