This is Arayah Hope. She is a four year old who is very active, loving, and sassy like her mom Lauren! On Saturday July 8th, Arayah was taken to the hospital for severe stomach pain. What was thought to be possible appendicitis, turned out to be a mass on her right kidney. She was then transferred to Cleveland Clinic main campus under the care of pediatric oncology. After much team planning, it was decided the best and only option was to remove the whole kidney. On July 11th, Arayah was taken to surgery to remove her kidney. A mediport was placed as well for continued treatment. The oncologists are waiting for the pathology of the tumor to see how aggressive it is. Arayah will be recovering in the pediatric ICU for the week. She will then be transferred back to pediatrics to continue to be monitored. The plan is for chemo and radiation to begin in two weeks. The team is unsure of how aggressive treatment will need to be until the pathology report comes back. Both Lauren and her husband Lavell are taking time off work to care for Arayah and their other children during this difficult time. Their oldest, Alexis, is supposed to be heading to Bowling Green in August. This family has had their whole world turned upside down. The medical bills will soon start coming, with the extended hospitalization, multiple follow ups, and treatments to come. All of this is on top of still trying to keep up with their mortgage and other bills. Lauren and Lavell are unsure of when they will be able to return to work. Please consider helping this family in any way possible. Thank you!
