Hello, friends and family I am writing this on behalf of my best friend, my beautiful twin sister Annie Kotich who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the fall of 2024. This is her journey: On November 12th, 2024 Annie called me with excruciating stomach pains. I took her to the ER after a CT scan was done they found a tennis ball-sized tumor on her right ovary that already had begun to metastasize. She then had surgery on November 18th to remove the tumor. The diagnosis was stage 2 clear cell carcinoma ovarian cancer, a rare tumor. Annie then had to take a leave of absence from her 7th-grade ELA teaching position. She then started her first of 6 cycles of chemo in December 2024. After 6 cycles of chemo, we were overjoyed when she was declared in remission on June 29th of 2024. Annie then went back to teaching in August 2024. At the end of October 2024 she experienced some stomach pains that led her back to the ER. Her cancer had come back. A new treatment plan was started on November 10th all while she was teaching. On March 16th another Ct scan showed slight growth in the stomach, therefore a new chemo was added to her regimen. Unfortunately, after 7 cycles of this new regimen, a Ct scan was done in July 2024 which showed the chemo was not working, and cancer has spread to the stomach and liver. She is now starting an aggressive form of chemo in a week and will have chemo every week for 3 weeks for 3 months. Annie will be traveling to MD Anderson in Houston in August for a consultation and possible future clinical trials. Insurance does not cover out-of-network doctors. Annie is needing assistance with expenses for medical and travel needs that may occur as she continues to "survive" this cancer. Anyone who knows my twin sis Annie, knows she is a kindhearted, strong, and unselfish person. She has always put everyone first including her family, friends, and the students she taught. I want to be able to see my twin sis accomplish her dream of mentoring children, finishing her young adult novel and continuing to spend time with her family. Your donations will help Annie greatly with her medical expenses to enable her to accomplish some of her dreams. We are #KotichStrong!! Our family thanks you and your continued prayers and support!
