Hi! This is Michelle & Greg Bloom (Amanda Robbins Hughes sister and brother-in-law). We are asking all of Amanda’s family, friends and colleagues to rally around her while she is on her road to recovery. On July 28, Nathaniel came home from work and had a brief conversation with Amanda before taking the dogs out and showering. After about 20 minutes, he returned to find Amanda unresponsive. He called 911 and was instructed to do CPR until rescue arrived where they continued and then proceeded to shock Amanda 4 times. Amanda was admitted to Cardiac ICU, on a ventilator and sedated. An MRI was done of her brain showing concerning spots in her temporal, occipital and frontal lobes. Right now we do not know what the future holds for her, we know recovery may be long…we are hopeful of miracles for complete healing and we are seeing some signs of improvement. Please continue to pray for Amanda & Nathaniel and the rest of the family as they navigate a new “normal”. ***Update 8/6/2024*** Amanda’s body was a little agitated last night and having trouble breathing. They decided to sedate her and put her back on the ventilator. This morning, the decision was made to do a tracheostomy. The plan is to do that early afternoon today. This will hopefully allow her to do some physical therapy. ***Update 8/13/2024*** Amanda is more alert by the day. She recognizes people and her memory seems to be improving. She has been moved out of ICU to the rehab floor where she will start intense physical, occupational and speech therapies.  Please continue to pray for complete healing. She still has such a long way to go. ***Update 8/22/23*** Amanda is making great progress….in fact, the medical team is surprised at how well she is doing. She passed her swallow test and they were able to remove the feeding tube and put her on a regular diet. She has maintained off the ventilator and this weekend, they removed the trach. With physical and occupational therapy, she is getting physically stronger each day. She is able to get up with minimal assist. Amanda has been staying awake more and more every day and her memory is improving. Hoping soon to move her to an intense rehab floor within Moses Cone Hospital where she will participate in 3 1/2 hours of therapy a day. Still a long road ahead of her, but she has already come so far! Thank you all for the continued love and support. ***Update 8/28/23*** Amanda graduates today from the intense therapy.  Woohoo!!!  She will hopefully be discharged tomorrow. She will start outpatient therapy three times a week. We expected a miracle and have received it. She still has obstacles to overcome and we don’t know when or if she can return to work. We appreciate all the love, thoughts, prayers and well wishes!
