As many of you know, Alyssa Tingle Battista was recently diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. She has just undergone a mastectomy, and will begin several months of chemotherapy in November. When Alyssa's childhood friend Jai and I initially approached her about starting a LFEBridge account, she felt uncomfortable with the idea of accepting donations from people. But the more research I did on the costs of cancer treatment of insured patients, the more I knew a LFEBridge account was the right thing to do. Alyssa reluctantly gave us permission to start this account and I know the response is going to be overwhelming! For some perspective . . . a recent study out of Duke University surveying a group of 300 insured patients receiving treatment for various types of cancer found that the average patient incurred $600 dollars per month in out of pocket medical expenses. Additionally, there is a loss of income for time away from work during treament. Anyone who knows Alyssa knows her generous spirit, she would be the first to give to one of us in need. I know we'd all love to show our support in any way we can during her treatment. Please contribute if you can and please spread the word to those who love and support Alyssa and Joe!Thanks for your time and support!Sincerely,Torie Munroe and Jai Kells
