On behalf of The Learning Tree Preschool, a Ministry of Hope Lutheran Church, one of our own suffered a terrible tragedy. Help us gather around this woman of God and her family at this difficult time. The home of Kelly Duncan, a beloved Learning Tree teacher of 23 years this October, underwent significant damage due to an electrical fire. She met with the adjuster today. The fire was electrical and consumed the living room and master bedroom. The whole home will need to be re-wired, but can be done through the attic, so thankfully, the unaffected rooms can remain intact; however, there is smoke damage throughout the residence, and insurance only covers structural damage. Though they didn’t lose everything, the home is not livable until all repairs are made. There will be some major purchases to be made to move back in when ready. In addition to teaching at The Learning Tree, Kelly also faithfully cares for her mother, who has medical issues. Kelly herself has medical conditions that she selflessly puts to the side in the heart of caring for her loved ones. Her son, Sid also resides with Kelly. Hope Lutheran was able to help by paying for Kelly, her mother, and Sid to be in a hotel through the end of the week. Beyond that, if her insurance doesn’t pick up room and board for a while (which, we all know is rarely a speedy process with many hoops to be jumped through), the hotel cost is around $1,000 a week, and then of course, furniture that will need to be purchased later. In addition to keeping Kelly and her family in steadfast prayer, we ask that you prayerfully consider blessing Kelly with a financial gift that God puts on your heart to help her as she puts together the pieces. Any amount counts. Prayer for Kelly and Family O God, our sister, Kelly just lost her home due to a fire. We thank you that no loss of life transpired, but we grieve alongside Kelly, the destruction of everything she owns. Lord, we ask for your provision over them in the coming days. I ask for your Spirit to help them make sense of this tragedy in their lives. They probably have so many questions they are asking. We pray for You to be their answer, and that they continue to seek You. They have to start all over with just the clothes on their backs, so they are in deep need and seeking direction. May you guide them Lord, in their next steps, from getting clothes to wear to finding a place to stay. We ask for favor with Kelly's insurance company, that there be no obstacles to them getting all the money they need from their policy. I pray for efficiency and kind attention throughout the process. Even as we weep with and for them, we pray for each person in her family, in the healing power of the Provider, Jesus Christ, Amen.
