Ammon is a sweet 6 year old boy that has recently had his world turned upside-down. On February 28th, 2015 he was outside playing 'war' with his brother when he suddenly colapsed. His big brother ran inside to tell me that Ammon had fell and that he 'looks funny'. I ran out to find my son white as a ghost with blue fingers and lips. He wasn't breathing. In every way he looked like he was gone. I called 9-1-1 with shaking hands. Opened his airway and attempted to give him breaths. By a pure miracle (knowing what we know now) he started breathing again just as the ambulance pulled up. We were taken to the hospital where they admitted him for observation, and released him the next day with no real explanation; other than 'sometimes these things happen'. We knew something wasn't right so we got him into his doctor as soon as possible. From there we were referred to a cardiologist and finally an electrophysiologist. Tests were ran and it was found that Ammon has a rare heart condition called Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT). CPVT is one of the Sudden Arrythmia Death Syndromes (SADS). Each year in the United States, approximately 295,000 Americans die suddenly and unexpectedly due to cardiac arrhythmias. Almost 4,000 of them are young people under age 35. These deaths total more than lung cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS combined! Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia or CPVT is a condition that results in ventricular rhythm problems (bidirectional and polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation) that can cause fainting or sudden death. Events usually occur with exercise or during stress. During growth spurts are a troubling time because he is left not fully protected while the doctors try to adjust his medication. The only way to save someone from a CPVT episode is with an AED shock to get the heart working again. Giving CPR will keep his heart going but the faster we have access to a AED the better his chances of survival. With this money we will buy 2 AED's (one for home, and one for travel so that he can safely play at the park and be a normal 6 year old.) We also will be getting all of his caretakers CPR certified.Ammon deserves a long, happy, healthy, and safe life. Please help us make that happen for him. Thank you so much for your support!-The Hinds Family
