Hi, this fundraiser is to raise money for medical bills/lodging/food/etc for Abby Railsback and her family. If you know the Railsback family at all you know how amazing they are, how caring and that they go above and beyond. It’s our turn to go above and beyond for them, if you feel led and can, please donate to bless this sweet girl and her family. After having electrodes placed in her brain for 8 days to find the source of her seizures, she was released from the hospital and went on a trip with her family for some much needed rest. Unfortunately after they landed she had a grand mal seizure. Latest update: Abby update: Last week was hard. It was hard to walk back into Cook Children’s Hospital and be back to where this nightmare started. Her neurologist and neurosurgeon sat with us for over an hour as we discussed what happened in Florida. They both asked for time to review the medical records from Florida so they copied what records I have and then requested the rest. They are both concerned about more brain damage to the left temple lobe where the memory is so an MRI is vital but unfortunately we still do not have the model number of the aneurysm coil so we will have to wait. We also discovered that she does have right side peripheral vision loss from where the aneurysm repair was. After many phone calls, I finally was able to get into an ophthalmologist who can do a field vision study to see the extent of the loss. That appt isn’t for a couple of weeks. I spoke again with her neurologist today and after her epilepsy team had a week to study all her records from Florida said they are at a loss of why she has short term memory loss. The location of the brain bleed and aneurysm is no where near the location of short term memory so again an MRI will hopefully provide more answers. She starts therapy tomorrow so praying that will show us the progress we so desperately need. She’s done with this and I’m done with this. Angry that she can’t go to school. Angry that she has to struggle so much. We need prayers for hope to raise from these ashes. This is from her Calista her mom: I don’t even know how to start this post. The last 12 hours have been the hardest of my life. We landed in Florida and Abby had a grand mal seizure at baggage claim. Thankfully EMS was already there and got to the hospital quickly. After watching her have seizure after seizure for hours she had a CT scan which showed a massive brain bleed. The neurosurgeon on call had to place a drain in her skull to drain the blood at her bedside because he couldn’t wait to take her to the OR. She was then transported to the ICU. She had a restless night where she was in and out of consciousness. She had another CT scan this morning at 4:30 am it showed a slight bit more bleeding but the head pressure was much better so for now letting her rest before deciding if she needs an additional drain. She has no idea what has happened. She has been mostly unconscious. With such a heavy post, I have to point out all the ways God has been in control of this. First flying did not causing this, we had clearance to fly from several doctors and even the neurosurgeon here said he would of let her fly. My mom heart needed that reassurance. 2nd, she did not have a seizure on the plane. She was good untill we landed then told me that she had a headache. 3rd, she had just walked down a bunch of stairs and was sitting down when the seizure started. 4th, because we were at the airport EMS was there and got to us quickly. 5th, the hospital we are in is a level one trauma children’s hospital. 6th, the neurosurgeon happens to be amazing and an expect on brain bleeds. 7th, this brain bleed could of happened anywhere and I feel sick to my stomach when I think about how it could of happened while she was asleep in her bed and not in front of me. 8th, I was able to call and speak to her neurologist in Texas and he quickly shared recent scans and has been calling throughout the night and today We came within hours of lossing her and still not out of the woods with complications after this but God has protected her and will continue to do that. Please pray for the boys, they saw too much of this. Pray Abby does not remember yesterday. Pray for Chaz, he is on a plane right now and will get here after lunch. I’m thankful to my sister, Courtni, for helping with the boys then then coming to sit with Abby some last night so I could take s break. Update: I’ve lost count the amount of specialists that have come in to see Abby. No one can figure out what’s going on so running every tests they can. She’s still unconscious so still don’t know the extent if any any. They are checking for bleeding disorders and aneurysms. Chaz’s flight was delayed an hour. Going on more than 24 hours of no sleep so pray that rest will come when needed. My sister got us a hotel close to the hospital and also close to the beach so we could enjoy peace when we can. I just need Abby to wake up and show me she is ok. Update: They found a brain aneurysm, and she’s going back for surgery now. Pray against stroke and complications. We are extremely lucky to have found it. She’s with a neurologist vascular specialist. You can’t tell me that God didn’t place her exactly where she needs to be!! Update: Abby is back in her ICU room. The doctor was able to seal the leak at the aneurysm and right now her vitals are good. Prayers that her blood pressure and heart rate stays normal to prevent more bleeding. She still has the drain in place and it’s doing it’s job of releasing the pressure. Update: Abby rested well overnight and vitals were good. In true Abby spirit one of the first things she did when she was coming to a little bit this morning was to pray for the infant next door to us. She overheard the nurse and I talking about her. Made me cry that she was thinking of that and not worried about yourself. She has a fever and neck pain from not being able to move her head. Latest CT scan did show improvement. She’s still very lethargic and not “awake” yet. The goal today is to get to wake up and be able to swallow her meds and eat. Update: We all know the brain is a very complex organ and Abby’s body has been through so much since Saturday. She showed signs of responsiveness mid morning and we were excited to see a little bit of Abby coming back but then she has regressed to not really answering questions. They ran another CT scan and that came back not showing any more further bleeding so that’s a great sign. She has a lot of blood that needs to drain and that will take time, possibly weeks. Right now prayers for no strokes and no further bleeding. We felt better after speaking to several of her doctors that assured us that this is normal to have ups and downs, especially when Abby has gone through so much. We’ve heard over and over that her brain conditions continue to be a very complex and none of the neurologists here in Florida or in Texas have seen a case like hers. Luckily her vitals are good and she’s resting. She did have a couple of seizures and that’s adding to her level of consciousness. Tomorrow she really needs to be more responsive for all of us to feel better about the road ahead. Thank you all for your continued prayers. She’s going to be ok, I know with all my heart and her doctors believe that too, it’s just going to take patience and I’m not good with patience. I want my girl back today. Update: Abby’s vitals are still really good and she didn’t have any seizures over night. They did dose her up pretty good with anti-seizures meds which is contributing to her sleepiness. We did talk to 2 of her doctors this morning and they gave us reassurance that her unresponsiveness is normal given the amount of blood on the brain and the amount of meds she is now. One of them said to expect her to stay this way for 3 more days. So now we wait and pray that her body is healing the way God created it to. Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, donations and love that has been poured out onto us. We feel your prayers and Chaz and I both got a good night’s rest last night. Our boys are having fun with their aunt, uncle and cousins. We are taking this day by day and believing that God is in complete control. There’s so much proof of that when you think about everything that has happened and how protected she has been throughout all of this. Update: Abby had a restful day today. She was way less restless and a bit more responsive. She even spoke a few words to her best friend via FaceTime. She asked for things like water and stated she was cold so she is headed in the right direction. After I cleansed her face and applied lotion she called me annoying so the teenager in her is definitely there. Right now focusing on keeping her comfortable while we continue to drain the blood off her brain, each day she should become more and more responsive. It’s still surreal but we remain very hopeful just taking it one day at a time. My sister, Courtni, got us a hotel close by the hospital so it’s been good for us to have moments away for rest and some peaceful moments. Update: Abby had a low grade fever for about 3 days now. Nothing too concerning till last night when it spiked to 104. It’s better now but I had a scary few hours of covering her with ice packs to help lower it because she can only have Tylenol. She started antibiotics this morning. She’s more alert but still very confused. She still has no memory of what happened or that she had a massive brain bleed. It’s hard to explain over and over what happened because she will ask over and over and not remember. She is also in the days where stroke is something we are monitoring very closely. The longer the blood sits against all the vessels in the part of the brain where the blood is, the more stressed they become and spasm, which can cause a stroke. To monitor for this she has a cranial sonogram daily. This is hard and we need prayers for endurance in this long process. Update: Abby update: she started antibiotics this morning and getting her 2nd dose right now. Fever has gotten better but headaches are starting to really bother her along with neck pain. She’s way more alert but her short term memory right now about 30 sec to 1 one minute long so she repeats the same questions or statements over and over. She also isn’t sleeping very much. Hoping they can give her a sleep aide tonight. From Chaz: Some highs and lows right now. Lows, dealing with ongoing fever on and off. She is struggling with body temp regulation. Some short term memory loss, same questions over and over. Although last night she told me she loved me over and over. That was sweet. She’s having a hard time resting. Highs, blood is draining from the brain really good and we are seeing sweet Abby, lots of conversation, she complements every nurse that she has. She is shining her light! The CT scan today showed she still has blood draining but is way better and draining faster than the surgeon predicted. Update: Abby is improving everyday. She was able to sit up in the chair for 45 mins. Memory is still pretty bad but is improving. Still draining blood but the doctor is working on seeing how much she can tolerate the drain being clamped some. So each day they will clamp it more and more to see how she does regulating the brain pressure on her own. This is slow and unfortunately a painful process. She’s still not resting for long periods because of the headaches. She’s still in good spirits and listening to worship music bring her some peace. There’s the sweetest chaplain here that blessed Abby and I with much needed prayers today. Update: Unfortunately Abby’s headaches have increased so did another CT scan this morning. Holding off doing anything further with the drain in her head till that CT scan comes back. Pray for sleep. She’s only been able to sleep a couple of hours at a time and nighttime is the worse. She’s been up 3 nights in a row with no sleep. We also heard from the neurosurgeon that she will be here at least another week. Ugg!! Update: Abby slept a little bit better last night. Still up with pain every 1-2 hours but was able to sleep in between. The latest CT scan showed less blood so moving in the right direction with that. Her short memory is still really bad. She can’t remember more than an hour or so of time. The doctors think it might be because she had so many seizures when she had the aneurysm. Time will tell what her memory is able to restore. Please pray for it to be completely restored. Also pray that she will not have to have a permanent shunt put in. Still one day at a time. Update: Shunt placement is scheduled for tomorrow and hopefully out of here this weekend. Due to having 5 brain surgeries in 5 weeks the neurosurgeon wants us to stick close by the hospital for at least a week. We are exhausted and weary but happy to know that a hotel room on the beach will be better than an ICU room. She’s sad to miss the first day senior year, hoping we can still make her first day back special whenever that day comes. Prayer requests today: pain level and anxiety. She’s nervous about another procedure and having something permanent in her head, the neurosurgeon wants to keep the drain clamped at a 10 which makes her head and neck hurt so she’s very uncomfortable. Prayers for a quick and speedy recovery and that her feet will be in the sand this weekend for finally a much needed few days rest. Prayers for Chaz holding down the fort at home which have included plumbing issues and a massive tree that needs to come down. Us Railsback’s keep things interesting!! This pic was taken right before this huge puppy started chewing on her pic line! Oops!! Update: She is back in her ICU room. She’s in a lot of pain, especially in her stomach area where they had to make an incision to insert the drain from her head to her stomach. We are giving her all the meds we can. The neurosurgeon thinks we can move to a reg room tomorrow and be discharged on Friday if she does well. He thinks maybe we can go home to Texas late next week. Please pray over pain and a Friday discharge. A sweet hair stylist is going to cut her hair on Saturday since she’s had it shaved in two places now. I think short hair is going to look cute on her.
