Hi, my name is Felicia Martino-Gonzalez and I am setting up a fundraiser for Maria. Have you ever wondered why certain people always go through hard times? How much can a person take? I often wonder about my own life. I know I will never understand why things happen and only God knows. But then I stop and reflect others have it worse. Those who know me know that I am that person who will always help someone when needed because that is who I am. I would like to share a story about my niece's stepmother Maria. Back in 2016, before Maria had her son Caleb, who is now a first grader at Rossi Elementary School, was diagnosed with this rare cancer called Carcinoid cancer. The cancer was in her stomach, along with ulcers in her esophagus, which led to Chronic Active Atrophic Gastritis. Due to the fact she had difficulty eating, she got very skinny along with losing her hair. She gets endoscopes and colonoscopies every 6 months. Every time she has a scope done, they find more tumors. She had her son Caleb in 2017. She still kept up with all her appointments to find out about more tumors. Five times diagnosed to be exact and has fought each time. She is a WARRIOR! Fast forward to this February, Maria was then diagnosed with lung cancer. She had surgery and is recovering and has a follow-up with her next scan in August. Maria went back to the Oncologist in May for her stomach scope and they sent it out for a biopsy. In June, her surgeon told her the tumors are back. At that time, he suggested a partial gastronomy. But after the 2nd scope, plans had changed. She would need a full stomach removal which would change her life forever. Her Oncologist has never seen a case like this. Her doctor said this is extremely rare and sent her to MD Anderson Cancer Center. She went and met with the surgeon. He told her the reason she keeps getting these tumors is due to a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori. She needs a great doctor to find the cure so she doesn’t keep getting these tumors over and over again. After endless days of research her husband, Jose, found her a doctor in Minnesota who is number #1 in the United States but does not take her insurance. Doctors, hospitals, and medicine are extremely expensive and this doesn’t even include travel. Those of you who know Maria know she is a woman of strong Faith. She is a warrior, wife, and mother. She is sweet and humble, but very overwhelmed. I am a firm believer in angels here on Earth. So, I am asking all of those who can help in some way, please do. We are all called to help others, spread kindness, and have compassion. Please keep Maria in your daily prayers along with her family. Thank you in advance for your donation, thoughts, and prayers.
