Update as of March 2024: Hi family and friends! After Margot was released from the hospital she continued to slowly improve over the course of a few months. To the surprise of her doctors, her body did not require dialysis or kidney transplant, a huge blessing and a miracle in itself! She was able to attend in person kindergarten for part of the year and she was able to get her NG tube removed. She has continued to require close monitoring, medication, infusions, and tests. The decision was made, based on her genetic autoimmune diagnosis and how it caused her last hospitalization, that she would need a bone marrow transplant (BMT). She is scheduled to go inpatient early April for that to happen. A successful transplant for Margot would put her genetic immune system disorder into remission and give her the best quality of life. Margot’s BMT will require many procedures, multiple medications, and monitoring her very closely for side effects and complications. Her current plan is to be inpatient for a minimum of two months. She has a long battle ahead and has shown us all the fight, strength, and resilience she has within. Margot’s donor is an extremely close match, so the hope is that there will be less transplant complications. Margot’s donor match was found through Be the Match or National Donor Marrow Program (NDMP), an amazing organization that finds the best matches of donors for people who require BMT’s. Thank you all for your continued support, love, and prayers for Margot and her family. It means so very much to them, they are so grateful for it. July 2024: We are raising funds to support Margot and her family. Margot was recently hospitalized and became severely sick. She is in acute kidney failure requiring dialysis. Her medical team is working to figure out what is causing her to have a serious autoimmune response. The process of figuring out what is going on can take a long time and it requires different supportive therapies in the meantime. In looking for answers, her medical team biopsied one of her kidneys. Based on those results, Margot’s kidneys have a low chance of regenerating and it is likely that she will need a kidney transplant. The current plan is to get her symptoms and labs under control in the hospital then continue outpatient dialysis 3 times a week. The hope now is that Margot can be eventually stabilized enough that she can do dialysis at home with the support of her parents, until she is healthy enough and a match can be found for transplant. This hospitalization has been an extreme hardship on their family as both Margot’s mom (Stephanie) and her brother (Henry), both receive regular treatment for their own autoimmune diagnoses. Margot’s dad (Zack) works a job that requires him to be gone for long shifts. The funds raised would help this family with gas money, groceries, bills, medical bills, and any other outpatient needs that insurance might not cover. Margot is a fun loving 5 year old who loves sloths, Harry Potter, gymnastics, and Taylor Swift. She should be starting kindergarten this week. Please keep them in your prayers, as they will need a lot of love and support navigating through all of this. Thank you for considering donating to help sweet Margot and her family.
