These old friends are in need of some monetary assistance. If you know Rob and Kendra you know how hard they work, how much they give back and how difficult this is for them to ask for help. Below describes their situation, if you can help, thank you in advance. They truly appreciate anything that can keep them from losing their home. Friends, old and new, and fellow alumni of then and now; Of all the words I have had a chance to share, the following for me will prove quite difficult. Some of you may know that Kendra and I are on a fixed income; our finances must remain below a certain threshold or Kendra’s prescription coverage will be impacted, leading to our out-of-pocket expense for her scrips again reaching nearly $1,500. Some of you know too that Kendra has, for three years now, suffered a great deal, first with COVID-pneumonia and recently with sepsis. With that being said, our home mortgage is through USDA-RD and since COVID all payments have been in a moratorium. Our loss of income since COVID has been substantial, as a writer I rely on in-store and in-person sales, and for three years there was none, and as a result we have been forced to end my twenty-three-year journey through fiction and non-fiction. Our loss of income placed our home in jeopardy but as we do have a federal mortgage, in 2024 we qualified for a refinance loan under the American Recovery Program in addition to a home repair loan, there was of course a catch. There was and is attached to the mortgage a lien dating back to 2010 of $11,000 that had to be removed before the loan could close. The USDA-RD suggested a Chapter 7 bankruptcy be filed to remove the lien, and since the original deed was under Kendra and her mom, her mom since deceased, Kendra filed a Chapter 7 to have the lien removed. Yesterday after nearly a two-year process we were informed by our attorney and by the USDA-RD that the holder of the lien will not make the lien subordinate meaning it can not be discharged by Chapter 7. If the lien cannot be discharged our refi will not be closed and our mortgage will be accelerated. The USDA-RD has given us 30 days to resolve the lien of $11,000. With a hat in hand and bruised pride, I must ask for help. I, we, Kendra and I, can offer only a sincere thank you and the promise that we will, whenever possible, continue to share the best and brightest of memories.
