Hello Friends- Today is the day that I am finding myself very conflicted. When I made it to adulthood, I worked very hard to ensure that I was always able to take care of myself. Many people don’t know that even when I was at my healthiest, I was still in and out of the ER with unexplainable medical issues multiple times a year. I always handled each expense as it came. As this last year has past, I find myself in an impossible situation. If you have ever seen the show HOUSE, you know that there are some medical cases, and conditions that are so rare, that even the experts in medicine have closed door case study sessions to treat these special cases. While this is just a TV show, it is something that could be an extremely valuable resource for me. Unfortunately, one that the current US standard medical system does not have the ability to accommodate. I currently have a team of 10 specialists, 6 of which I will have to go to for lifelong problems, but each specialty is treating me within that individual specialty. As different areas of my body are all digressing, the pieces have yet to be put together. I have received a referral to Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Tempe Arizona. My doctors here have stated that this would be the next course of action as the Mayo clinic can better evaluate me for some of the rarer neurological diseases. Following my unexplainable stroke last July, I got a severe respiratory staph infection that led to me being let go from my job due to them finding me “unfit” to work at the company in October 2024. Since this time I have had 4-6 doctors appointments a week, 20+ imaging studies, a growing list of rare conditions, 9 trips to the ER, surgery, additional surgeries needed, the diminishing function of the left side of my body, and prescriptions to 16 new medications, . Mitch has been a god send in supporting us through this difficult time, but unfortunately, he was laid off. I am unable to work at this time, and insurance will not cover a very specific full body scan that could be pivotal in assisting in the diagnostic process. This full body scan is 2499 dollars out of pocket, and the soonest opening to receive it isn’t even until September. I have been prepared for a very long road of recovery ahead, but now that I have been fighting for a year, and my health is still declining, with no root cause. I have chosen to swallow my pride, do what is the most uncomfortable for me, and ask for a little help. I have applied for my VA disability and social security disability as first steps to try and receive aid before getting to this point, but the vetting process can take up to 6months to a year to receive a decision. At the end of the day, any penny extra is a penny closer to me regaining my identity, and possibly catching something very serious before it becomes irreversible. If you took the time to read this and are unable to assist, you too are helping more than you could ever know. For everyone that knows me well, knows, that I will always feel bad about asking for this help. But I will always strive to repay this debt by making the world a better place when I am strong enough to do so. With love, Archie.
