My sisters informed me that my Mom, who’s only 58 years old, was recently diagnosed with advanced Liver Cancer. I never thought I’d hear the most heartbreaking news about my Mom, especially since I am away from her as she is in the Philippines. We are determined to do everything we can to give her a fighting chance and beat CANCER! Unfortunately, the healthcare system in the Philippines is unable to cover all the costs of her treatment. And seeking medical help back home is too expensive, particularly for cancer treatment. It has been very challenging for all of us -- emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially. Nevertheless, we have kept our spiritual faith stronger than ever, trusting that God will shine His light on all of us and help us get through this nightmare. Her medical cost has been overwhelming for all of us as we are unable to afford all of it. Her recent CT scan results present a complex situation. In addition to her liver cancer, she has liver cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) with an enlarged spleen and blood clots. Due to her liver cancer, she had developed ascites (fluid in her stomach) and right pleural effusion (fluid in her lung) which gave her breathing difficulties. As a result, she needed an external drainage catheter to remove the fluid and relieve the pressure in her right lung. Because of her complicated health condition, she also developed Cholecystolithiasis (stones in Gallbladder). Lastly, she is also dealing with Spondylosis (or Osteoarthritis of the Spine) of the lower dorsal and lumbar spine, and degenerative Osteoarthrosis in her lower back. According to her doctors, they cannot operate on her liver to remove the affected area due to the complications revealed by her multiple laboratory tests. Secondly, they also found out that the cancerous mass has already spread to some parts of her liver. However, we are keeping our hopes high as our God is faithful. We are still blessed that her doctors provided us, and most importantly my Mom, a glimmer of hope. The doctors suggested two options for us to beat this. First, my Mom needs to take an oral medication called Lenvatinib (anti-cancer medication) once a day which costs $150 Canadian dollars and must be taken indefinitely. Secondly, a Liver transplant, which costs $200,000 to $500,000 Canadian dollars because it will be performed outside the Philippines. On top of these potential treatments, she’s been taking her maintenance medications daily. She’s also been in and out of the hospital to treat the fluid in her lungs and to conduct additional laboratory tests for her cancer. We are doing everything we can, but the costs continue to rise beyond our reach. In this difficult time of our lives, we are humbly knocking at your hearts to help my Mom beat her Liver cancer. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a big difference in affording her treatments and medicines and ensuring that she receives the best possible care. The funds raised here will go directly to cover her medical expenses. If you’re unable to donate, your prayers and well-wishes are just as valuable to us. Please consider sharing this campaign with others. We deeply appreciate all forms of support, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering helping us in any way you can. We, along with my family, are praying and holding unto God’s faithfulness that we will get to see our mother grow old and make more memories with us. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you!
