My husband, Barry, recently received a cancer diagnosis. Barry has a servant's heart and has sewen into so many over the years doing foster care, serving in churches and anywhere he can help and has always offered to help others, even when he worked 70+ hours a week. He always has a positive outlook, "It is going to work out"! "It is going to be ok"! But cancer always seems to make a surprise appearance and of course, we were blindsided. We have been pushing through these last two weeks with testing, nuclear bone scans, etc. My first thought, there was no way the Lord was going to leave me alone with 5 kids to raise by myself. AND I KNOW HE WON'T, I have peace about that. However, we are now trying to figure out what the next steps will look like. Extended time off from work for surgery and potentially 5.5 weeks of radiation, coupled with a lack of coverage from a "self-employed" family insurance plan, which so far has only covered 1/10 of the expenses. So just in the last few weeks, we are already seeing the effects of cancer, emotionally, mentally and financially. We have seen so many GOFUNDMEs over the years about sickness, cancer, loss, etc, donated, helped others and prayed for them...BUT NEVER EVER in a million years would we have ever thought we would receive such a diagnosis. YET! HERE! WE! ARE! Please help the Vis family. First and FOREMOST, please pray for our family. GOD HAS given our family peace and in this season we are going to lean into him and continue to pray and believe, that this is only a season and we will get through it. We pray that until the surgery is completed the cancer does not metastasize and that Barry will make a full recovery. However, with time off of work and lack of health insurance coverage, this has already carried an overwhelming financial burden.
