Dear family and friends, My friends and I reach out to you with a heartfelt plea on behalf of an individual facing a difficult challenge. He just received a letter from the Department of Immigration that his deportation freeze has been lifted. This means that at any time he can be picked up by ICE and returned immediately to Mexico. This individual has been in the United States for 22 years. His two young children were born in the United States and they would be devastated to lose him. He is a good father financially supporting his children and attending their activities. He has spent thousands in legal fees trying to get legal status in the United States but recently due to lack of funds, stopped working with his attorney. His name is omitted to respect his privacy. We know with our current immigration system we are lacking a path forward for those who have been in the US for an extended time. His story is difficult to hear but gives one a better understanding of why he left his home to come to the US. When he was 3 months old his mother left him to be raised with his paternal grandmother. His life has been hard. Nonetheless, he finished high school in Mexico and set his sights on getting a job and earning a living. But his grandmother died and he was asked by his uncle to go to the USA for a better life. The encouraging part of this story is he has found an immigration attorney which is crucial to navigate the intricate web of immigration laws and policies. The legal fees are a substantial burden for him who is already struggling to meet basic living expenses. We are launching this LFEBridge campaign to rally around him and ensure they receive the legal representation they urgently need. Our goal is to raise $4000 to cover the initial fees ensuring him he has a fair chance at a future in the United States.
