Hi, I’m JoAnn and I’m hoping to raise funds for my sisters family as they are going through extensive medical stress. Please consider helping them so they can focus on being with Levi in the hospital and not be stressed about medical bills or rushing back to work. below is the information my sister posted on Facebook to update family of what is going on, I am sharing this information with their permission. Levi began having some odd neurological symptoms that caused one side body numbness, temporary paralysis and trouble talking and functioning over the last couple of days. There were only 2 episodes that lasted less than an hour then he acted like nothing happened. A day in the ER and 2 MRIs later we were told he has had multiple mini strokes. We were referred to Sanford in Fargo Pediatric ICU. The neurology team reviewed the scans and saw multiple old and very new evidence of strokes on the frontal lobe, left and right hemisphere of his brain. He has suffered from chronic migraines but until just recently he didn't show any stroke symptoms. they performed a cerebrial angiogram and confirmed the areas of vessels that are blocked and weak including full blockage of his right carotid artery. It was diagnosed as Moyamoya Disease. It's rare in children and is a life long condition. After the angiogram the neuro surgeon performed a type of cerebrial bypass surgery on the left side of his brain to try to create new blood flow and vessels. We were told he will be needing the same surgery on the right side of his brain in a few days. Levi has been beyond brave while keeping his sense of humor through all of this. It's a day by day progress right now and it's going to involve a long road ahead of us. He will need to be taking a step back from his love of sports and strenuous activity. Which if you know Levi this will be very hard as he was going to be testing again for his Junior Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and is currently finishing up baseball season while already looking forward to football. We've had the most amazing support from family, friends and co workers and we would be lost in all of this. We are running on fumes but doing everything we can to keep Levi comfortable. He is having normal cognitive function right now. We are unsure when we will be home at this point but will try to update as we know more. Please just keep our sweet boy in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this unknown path ahead of us.
