Hi! My name is Ciara. My 11month old kitty Zissou was recently diagnosed with FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). He has quickly lost about a third of his body weight, weighing only 5.2lbs. He has had seizures & trouble eating and drinking. This disease has historically had a 100% fatality rate until recent advances in antiviral research. There is now an off market antiviral (both injection and pill form) called GS441524 available that has been tested at both UC DAVIS & Cornell Univ. Unfortunately these medications are not yet FDA approved so getting them can be tricky and extremely expensive. He will need to receive 2 injections twice a day for a min of 84 days. Cost for all supplies are expected around $3000, and I have already spent around $2500 trying to get a diagnosis. I’m asking for any help in his treatment costs as I’ve had to take time off work during this process and expect lots of follow up vet visits and supportive care costs. *Please understand if at any point he is not responding to his treatment or his care team does not believe his quality of life is improving, I may need to consider the heartbreaking alternative. Thank you so much for any and all encouragement and support.
