The spunkiest little 8 year old yorkie, Yankie, was hit by a car with the driver not even noticing, on Thursday night. Her amazing Mom, Amber and boyfriend Rob, took her immediately to Marathon Emergency vet clinic to get her stabilized and get a prognosis. Not feeling comfortable conducting surgery on the little shattered pelvis, vet staff referred Amber to a specialist in Miami. Once stable, they decided that Tuesday would be the day for Yankie's first of two surgeries. Sunday came not only with a crazy work day but then the worst news a mom could hear, "she is in cardiac arrest and not responding to C.P.R.". Dropping everything Amber rushed home, in the 8 minute drive home, 2 calls from the vet came. She still isn't responding to resusitation, and your beloved pet Yankie is gone. After feeling so confident in her being stable and ready to go into surgery in a couple of days, this didn't even seem real. Preparing to take great care of her in her recovery, to not having a recovery at all was simply devestating. Yankie would literally play ball for hours, cuddle up with you when on the couch to snore loudly to you as she slept, bringing out the brush was by far the best feeling in the world for her especially on her belly where that was AMAZING. The plans for the many "Faces of Yankie Calendar" were never short for ideas. Her many puppy friends will be so sad to not have the little fiesty 8 pound dog, that thought she was their size, around to run with and have an absolute blast. The loss of such a hilarious dog in our community is heartbreaking. The vet bills for emergency care are outrageous, totally worth it when the results are what we are hoping for. Yankie will be missed immensely. Eight years was just not enough time with her. With 24-hour care for the past 4 days, medical bills are through the roof. We are asking you to help our grieving friend who not only manages two jobs but also fosters dogs from our local animal shelter. Any donation will help ease the financial pain while time may ease the emotional pain of our loss.Forever grateful for your generosity.Yankie's friends and family
