Hello and welcome to my fundraising page, my name is Aloysius Fitzpatrick and this fundraiser is to represent Team USA Deaf Wrestling in the World Deaf Wrestling Championship. The championship will take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from August 28th to September 12th, 2024. I've been wrestling since I was 8 years old and it has become my passion. My dream is to graduate from one of the best wrestling colleges and hope to coach the next generation of deaf and hard-of-hearing wrestlers. I will be moving on to junior in high school this fall at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington D.C. and I want to be a math teacher someday. Wrestling helped me boost my self-esteem and helped me push forward in life. Competing in this event is a once-a-lifetime opportunity to test my limits after concluding my sophomore year with a 38-8 record. I won several tournament championships including the Willigan tournament, where I was undefeated in both individual and dual matches. In March 2024, I received an honorable mention in the Washington Post newspaper. Here is the link: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/03/28/2024-23-winter-all-met-wrestling-first-team-second-team-honorable-mention/ However, I struggled against stronger opponents in the bigger tournaments, which inspired me to enhance my wrestling skills and continuously improve my performance. This international opportunity will allow me to develop advanced skills and represent Team USA while doing so. My goal is to give my best and accept nothing less than an outstanding performance. As part of my training for the competition, I practiced twice a week this summer to learn Greco-Roman and Freestyle techniques to prepare myself for the World Champion. I also went to a renowned wrestling camp run by Cael Sanderson at Pennsylvania State University earlier in the summer. On the evening of August 29th, my team and I will depart from Chicago to arrive in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on August 31st. Following our arrival, we will train with the team for several days before the Greco-Roman match-up starts on September 3rd and the Freestyle tournament begins on September 8th. Looking back on the day I first step on the wrestling mat, I never thought I would have the opportunity to represent Team USA in the World Deaf Wrestling Championship. This experience will be humbling as I am honored to represent our country in competing against the best of the best from other countries. Your donation will be incredibly beneficial and will be allocated for the following expenses (total estimated to be $5,000): Transportation Food Boarding Team apparel Tournament expense Here are the links for you to check out: World Deaf Wrestling Championship: http://www.deaflympics.com/pdf/wrestling-bulletin-1.pdf USA Deaf Wrestling: https://usadeafwrestling.com/ International Committee of Sports for the Deaf: http://ciss.org/championships/bishkek-2024-2 Thank you for your support - go Team USA Deaf Wrestling!
