Hello, we're the Wind-Up Penguin Theatre Company! We are actors and musicians trained at the UK's best conservatoires, who believe that vulnerable children in the world are those who need the Arts the most. We have a proud eleven-year history of making disadvantaged children smile, hope, and thrive. We're a grassroots, volunteer-run cohort of young performers who have shared professional-standard music-theatre shows with over 50 000 of the poorest children in the world: in orphanages, hospitals, refugee centres, and rural schools. This summer, we - Emma, Lauren, Bianca, Darcie, Frank, Caleb and Daniel - shall share our new music theatre show with refugee children in Istanbul and Eastern Turkey. Turkey hosts four million refugees, and has been the largest refugee-hosting country for the past nine years. Many refugees were already living in precarious temporary accommodation in Eastern Turkey, when the recent earthquake hit. These communities are now twice displaced, and children suffering through the trauma of this desperately need help to be reconnected to the crucial elements of childhood, through storytelling, music, and play. We collaborate with NGOs on site, complementing their educational and first-need interventions with a high-impact cultural activity. In Eastern Turkey, we will be collaborating with the NGO Kids Paradise . Our company is run entirely by recent graduates. We fund and fundraise the costs ourselves, which is why we're asking for YOUR help. Any donation, even the most modest, will help enormously towards covering the necessary costs for us to deliver our inspiring, life-affirming performances to children that need it most. Thank you! Frank, Caleb, Daniel, Bianca, Darcie, Emma, and Lauren. https://winduppenguin.org.uk/why-it-matters
