Our sweet boy Willy Chonka was rushed to the emergency vet last night and will be there for at least the rest of the weekend. Yesterday (Friday July 28th) we noticed Willy had been urinating outside of his litter box and we made the soonest appointment we could get with our vet for Monday morning. That evening Willy was looking lethargic and started presenting blood in his urine so we rushed him to the vet. The ER vet noted Willy’s kidney levels were dangerously high and he was dehydrated. They started him on fluids and have placed a urinary catheter to help bring his levels down. The estimate we’ve received for his weekend stay and diagnostics is around $6000. This does NOT include the cost of surgery which may be another $5-$6k. We don’t have the estimate for the surgery yet but will update when we have more info. Willy isn’t a candidate for surgery until they can bring his kidney levels down. My husband Peter, who shares the responsibility of caring for the dozens of foster dogs and kittens we’ve had over the years, has been out of work due to the WGA and SAG strikes. This makes my income as an animal shelter worker our sole income at the moment. We hate to ask but this is impossible for us to cover without help. Willy was our first ‘foster fail’ that we rescued as a 3 week old kitten while I was working at the South LA shelter. He’s now 4 years old and has been a healthy boy up until now. We love him dearly and our completely heartbroken that he’s going thru this. If you’re able to help by sharing or donating even a small amount we would be incredibly grateful. Thank you for all the love you’ve shown Willy over the years, hopeful we’ll have many more silly videos to share. See update for clinic information and estimate. In Gratitude, Aimee, Peter, Kelpie, Luigi, Willy Chonka, Avogato, Toaster, Molé, and all our fosters ❤️
