Hi, my name is Alexandra and I'm a Wildlife carer in the Northern Territory. I mainly care for Macropods (Agile Wallaby & Antilopine) but I also care for Native rodents like your Black Footed tree rat, Birds and Possums. I am passionate about caring for the intensive/high care animals that come in. I believe every animal should be given a chance of survival. The majority of the animals that come into care are due to road accidents. I will rehabilitate them, then repatriate back into the wild when the time comes. If a pinkie wallaby (think of a pinkie like a preemie baby) comes into my care, I can be feeding them around the clock every 2-3 hours, they are generally in my care for around 10-11 months before they can be repatriated. I can go from having 1 animal in care to having over 10, all with different needs and feeding schedules! It can get very busy for 1 person! I'm constantly out on the road checking pouches and doing rescues, I'm always available to the public if they need help with any wildlife rescues 24/7. There is no government funding in Australia for wildlife carers. All costs come out of my pocket. I'm currently spending around $200 per month on formula and food for the animals in care (this varies depending on how many animals I have in care at any given moment). On top of caring for wildlife 24/7 I also work full-time. I'm incredibly lucky to have a wonderful employer who allows me to continue doing what I love. I'm reaching out as I need to set up a new enclosure for the wallabies and to help with the ongoing food bill. Funds will be used for the following: - Fencing a new wallaby enclosure that is dog proof - Building a room off the existing run for the wallabies at night - Any remaining funds will go towards ongoing care, food, fuel for rescues. Can you please spare just $5 to help meet these costs? You can follow my journey on Instagram @Thealexandrapepper Any support is so wonderful and greatly appreciated.
