Dear Friends, Sisters, Brothers, and everyone, My name is Cathy. I am asking for a donation for my childhood sister Kuang Chiou (Rachel). Please scroll down for English English : I have known Rachel since she was a baby and I was 5 years old. She was once an active and lively girl until the age of 12. Because of a spinal tumor removal surgery that went wrong, she suffered permanent paralysis in both legs and has had to rely on a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Could you imagine the big impact on her life?! Fortunately, she has become a positive and cheerful little woman full of sunshine. As you know, the big concern for disabled is lacking exercise. Gyms or sports venues are not designed to accommodate special needs. Therefore, because the doctor advised her to exercise to prevent weight gain, she entered the world of badminton. In the beginning, she just wanted to be healthy and active. Without the support of relatives and family (grew up in the orphanage), there were people who underestimated her abilities. However, no one expected that this little girl possessed such talent and determination to be selected for the R.O.C (Taiwan) national badminton team. Her badminton journey began in 2014. Having to work every Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, during the weekends she took the first early morning train from northern Taiwan to southern Taiwan for badminton training with no rest days. In 2016 she made her first appearance on the international stage. Since January 2024 she has been traveling around the world and participating in various badminton tournaments to accumulate points in order to qualify for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. I am extremely proud of Kuang Chiou's achievements in women's doubles with her best partner Yang Yichen. They are currently ranked 4th in the world in the points race. As long as they maintain their position within the top 6th in the upcoming tournaments in the UK, Australia, Japan, and Dubai, then the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris will be her shining stage. In Taiwan, the financial support provided to national athletes for people with disabilities is not on par with that provided to ordinary "Olympic athletes." Therefore, she has to rely entirely on herself for funding, while working a regular nine-to-five job in Taiwan. In addition to the necessities of life, she has to cut back on expenses to pay for training and competition costs that include practicing venues, nutrition, transportation, accommodation, personal provider, etc. When Kuang Chiou talked to me about the difficulties in funding for the national tournament, I realized it would cost her many month's salary. No wonder she has cup-a-noodles for meals mostly. So I decided to start this Go-Fund-Me to gather friends, sisters and brothers who know her or may not know her, or people who had similar experiences to support and encourage her. Whether in Taiwan or overseas, we are all here to encourage and support Kuang Chiou ( Rachel) to never give up and be a big fighter. Together we will send Kuang Chiou (Rachel) to the 2024 Paralympic Games in France! The total donations for supporting her to participate in the upcoming international tournaments is USD$8,000. This includes the daily training fee, physical therapist, training transportation and competition costs in the UK, Australia, Japan, Dubai, etc. Regardless of whether it's $5 or $10, any amount is deeply appreciated. So, today, let's skip a cup of Boba milk tea, Starbucks or go out dining to make this little woman go to the 2024 Paralympics in Paris! Additionally, please pray for Kuang Chiou (Rachel). May God prepare and lead her to the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Go for Chiou 2024!
