Hi, my name is Alice O’Toole. I am a final year student in Ulster University studying Occupational Therapy. As part of our final year placement, myself and my two friends are travelling to Ghana, Africa to volunteer in a school. Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession offering support to people with physical, psychological and social problems to enable them to live life to the best of their ability. We will be providing occupational therapy for children with various needs and abilities who don’t have the opportunity to avail of these services in their community. We will be providing equipment to assist the children in their everyday lives. We will also be working alongside their teachers, parents and guardians on how to best support the children’s needs. We will also be running group therapy sessions to develop their fine and gross motor skills which are vital skills needed for participation in everyday life. We will be facilitating this through play and fun activities which is imperative to a child’s development. We will be travelling in January 2024 and staying for a month working in unison with their childcare programme. Any donations or support would be greatly appreciated and would go directly towards this great cause. Thank you!
