Maverick, aka Mav, is my daughter Kenzie, future son-in-law Michael, and granddaughter Hanna’s 7 month old lab. He is a loving and playful lab - up until two days ago when he became lethargic, wouldn’t eat or drink and then started vomiting everything everywhere. Kenzie took him to the vet in Des Moines, Iowa late Saturday (7/22) night where they immediately took him in for testing. Ruled out parvo - thankfully; but more tests show he is bleeding internally and becoming septic. He’s been poisoned - with rat poison. The vet said he needs immediate surgery and to rush him to the University Of Iowa Vet Clinic in Ames, Iowa. Once Mav was seen there they found his intestines and bowels are blocked and his bleeding is so severe that they needed to start an IV and blood transfusions. The internal bleeding needs to stop or slow down before they can open him up to remove the blockage. They are hoping to start the surgery very soon, and we hope he pulls through. We are already into the thousands with the tests, lab work, blood transfusions, IV and the estimate is between $8,000 and $12,000 depending on what they find.
