Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School and West Tampa Elementary are public schools in the West Tampa area. The schools in Hillsborough County don't receive adequate funding for activities like VEX robotics, so programs like these are mostly supported by the parents. West Tampa is not as well off as other schools in this district putting the kids at a disadvantage due to a lack of opportunities. I want to change this by starting a robotics team at this elementary school to foster STEM skills in kids at a young age. Starting a new team does require a large sum of money, and I need these donations to properly fund my program. West Tampa is known for having one of the highest Hispanic or Latino populations in the whole Tampa Bay Area. Schools in this area are usually underrepresented and have less opportunities especially in the STEM field. I want to open up more of these chances and allow for these students to have experiences they would otherwise never get without my program. I plan to start a competitive robotics team at West Tampa Elementary School and continue the successful program at TBBE. Hopefully, I can carry this on through out my high school years eventually passing this on to younger students with similar interests. I believe that this program will open countless opportunities of these students later in their lifetime. In addition of this grant, I am also in the process of collecting donations to support my program for this year and the ones to come.
