I am starting this fundraiser for two of my favorite humans on this planet. Lily and Satya Athair unexpectedly lost Satya’s father on Monday July 3rd from a seizure. This comes not long after a harrowing journey with Lily’s own health, and as much as we are all so thankful for her own journey back to health, it is with sadness in our hearts that we grieve for Satyas loss of a father who loved her very much. I asked Lily to share a few words about what they have been though: My child’s father left his body unexpectedly on July third. Two years after I was journeying to the edge of life myself. I trickled down to a mere 70 pounds where I stood at the edge and choose to came back. Couldn’t sleep for months fearing my child might wake up next to a corpse. But I pushed past it for my little, because despite the whispers in my head trying to tell me that I may be able to do more for the world from the other side, more to mend the division and destruction I was witnessing, there was someone who needed me. Despite all the self doubts trying to tell me me that others might do better raising her, as I sat on that edge I realized that wasn’t true. My work here isn’t done and no one can do better for her than me. So I stayed, and it’s a darn good thing. Because she would be an orphan now. She already is saying “she’s too young to deal with this..” Of course I have incredible people in place as a back up plan, but I realized I have work to do in this body on this plane. I still have many seeds to sow full of compassion and interdependence, to inoculate passion and add my enzymes in the work of decomposing colonization and laying the grounds for a healthier world for my kid and the generations to come. But I’ve been moving non stop, trying to catch up on the time I lost. When really want and need is to slow down, be present, make art, finish my book, grieve, hug my kid, and decompose this grief. As her father has left I’m stepping outside my comfort zone to ask for help and express vulnerability as I ask if you can chip a little bit so I can slow down and be fully present for my kid for a bit I would be beyond grateful, on top of all this my child and I are in the process of moving by the end of the month. I would also love to share some with his son my child’s brother who was living with him. To help pay rent for his little family who are especially reeling after finding his dad, preforming CPR, and who now have now have double bills. Please help his final act be a gift to give us: the space to breathe and just be and just savor the little things.
