(limited to 5) What is the play about? Lette is an inventor of high voltage plug connectors. He is on the cusp of delivering a major presentation at an all-important international conference. At the last minute, he’s told he can’t go, as there is something disastrously ‘wrong’ with his face. Seeking answers, he turns to his wife, who – surprised by his surprise – tells him he is unspeakably ugly. So unspeakable in fact, that no one has ever told him. In desperate determination, Lette turns to a surgeon, who offers him a drastic yet potentially miraculous solution. As the result of his operation, which thrusts him into new spheres of fame and glory, Lette soon discovers an even more disturbing ugliness within. Eventually, confronted by the true price of his transformation, Lette is left to face the question - who am I really? Written as 60 pages of uninterrupted dialogue, The Ugly One has been transformed into a dynamic and imaginative tale of identity and beauty, fizzing with all the energy of a pneumatic drill shaving off your left cheek. Shockingly absurd. Weirdly funny. And explosively expressive. If you still aren't sure, then here are some of the wonderful production shots taken by Craig Fuller at The Wardrobe Theatre. Featuring some delicious reviews. "This production is an 80-minute rollercoaster of a theatre experience." ★★★★ LifeStyle "There follows some DELIGHTFULLY WITTY direction here from Natalie Simone who turns the cast into preening, pouting sexy things" ★★★★ StageTalk "PROFOUNDLY MOVING, bitingly brutal and laugh out loud funny - Natalie Simone’s razor-sharp production grabs the audience by the throat and doesn’t loosen its grip until well after the performance has finished." - Sally Cookson "The satire, feels like a modern day cautionary fairy tale for right now. It is a thought-provoking piece of work from an EXPERT TEAM of cast and creatives" ★★★★ Backstage Bristol The Ugly One is the kind of show you don't get to see often these days. It is more NAUGHTY, WEIRD and with more joie de vivre. Visually, thematically, and intellectually, the show celebrates theatre as an act of play." - Tom Brennan, The Wardrobe Ensemble The Cast Lette - Christopher Williams Fanny - Kate Cartwright Scheffler - Sumāh Ebelé Karlmann - Kerr Louden The Creative Team Produced by Natalie Simone & Jacob Clear Director - Natalie Simone Designer - Vyshnavi Krishnan Stage Manager -Jacob Clear Deputy Stage Manager - Ell East Sound Designer - Alex Harrison Lighting Designer & Operator - Alice Boal Voice Coach - Katie Meekison Costume Supervisor - Olivia Morell Tickets will be available soon on The Hope Theatre website.
