We’ll all cross those invisible lines, just keep going. Introduction: Hey, my name is Bret Queenan, I’m a current film student at Emerson College and I’m currently in the pre-production process of a short film that I wrote called The Lines We’ll Cross. After my first year in college moving from outside of Philadelphia, PA to Boston, MA, I started a new stage in my life and discovered that this was a second coming of age. For some transitioning to college it can be challenging attempting to build new relationships, do well academically, and most importantly progress and develop who you are. I learned that this transition is a constant process and you will always continue to live and grow along the way and with these sentiments in mind, I wrote The Lines We’ll Cross. As I will also be directing and producing this film I want audiences to be grounded in being unsure what the future holds as they follow a young college student through their journey coming to a similar realization. Our Campaign: The Lines We’ll Cross is a surrealist romantic drama and a coming-of-age short film. This campaign will help raise funds that will go to necessities for the production of the film. Story/Film Summary: DAY, a 19-year-old college student, struggles after breaking up with his girlfriend, JUNE, after she cheated on him. While reflecting on their relationship and attempting to confirm whether he’s progressing in life, he takes to the streets of Boston to find an answer. Visual Inspirations: Here are some of the visual inspirations from our lookbook featuring films like The Social Network (2010), Her (2013), Moonlight (2016), Beautiful Boy (2018) and more. My Story: For some of you that already know me and for those who don’t, I have been making short films and video content since my freshman year of high school and have always wanted to be a film producer/director since I was 8 years old. I have always been inspired by the images, storytelling, and characters displayed from projections on the silver screen to the T.V. in my bedroom and even other forms of media as technology continues to exponentially develop. I admire films, shows, and directors/creators like The Matrix (1999 dir. Lana & Lilly Wachowski), Sorry to Bother You (2018 dir. Boots Riley), Atlanta (2016-2024 dir. Hiro Murai & Donald Glover), Enemy (2013, dir. Denis Villeneuve), Ex Machina (2014 dir. Alex Garland) and the list goes on (there’s a lot). During my time making short films in high school I have entered many film festivals, one specifically being the FilmNOW film festival where I received my first finalist selection for my short documentary “When Will It End America?” in 2024. Now In 2024 and during my time at Emerson I want to continue producing films and work to develop stories to hopefully inspire others. Budget Breakdown: All the funds that are raised for this film will be going to various areas of the production such as equipment rentals mostly to build around the Atlas Orion Series Anamorphic Lenses. These lens have been used to shoot films and series such as Everything Everywhere All at Once (dir. Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert), Babylon (dir. Damien Chazelle), The Peripheral (dir. Vincenzo Natali & Alrick Riley on Amazon Prime), The Batman (dir. Matt Reeves), Don’t Look Up (dir. Adam McKay on Netflix). Funds will also be going to production design, costume design, catering for the cast and crew, location permits for various areas around Boston, score/composition and film festival distribution during post-production. Tier List: We are extremely grateful for every contribution that goes towards the production of the film so we want to give to our supporters. Within the contribution tiers if you donate $25, $50, or $75 to the film, you will also receive everything below the tier you donated.
