Our dear friends Abby Rose & Dylan Kamp are experiencing what no pet parent ever wants to go through… last week their sweet boy Rogue was hit by a car. He was taken to an emergency vet where he was noted to have bleeding in his chest and a collapsed lung. At that time he was expected to make a full recovery. His symptoms had worsened and they believed that he had a herniation of his liver and part of his stomach through his diaphragm which would require surgical intervention. He was transferred to U of I Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Champaign last Friday where this surgery took place and is currently there in the ICU. He has had to have blood transfusions, as he was bleeding too much after surgery & lost 40% of his blood volume; multiple Plasma infusions, PICC lines, an NG tube as he has not been able to eat, a urinary catheter to keep him clean & comfortable, and multiple labs & diagnostic testing. Sunday into Monday his condition worsened and he had concern for pancreatitis or possible liver failure or liver obstruction. He has also had to have multiple medications for pain control & to help regulate his heartbeat as he had been having arrhythmias as well. While today he was looking a little brighter things are still very much on the fence as with any ICU patient. To know Rogue is to love him. He is a big boy with an even bigger heart. He is filled with endless energy & excitement for life. He loves swimming anytime he can, belly rubs from anyone & everyone, playing with his best pup friend; his Uncle Rocky, rolling in mud puddles, playing tug & fetch, and stealing licks from ice cream cones. Most of all Rogue loves his parents, Abby & Dylan, who are trying to give him the best love and support they can at this time. As you can guess the veterinary bills have accumulated and are already close to $10,000. Please consider helping to ease the financial burden of our sweet friends as they go through this tragic & stressful time & please send all your prayers & positive vibes to the “goodest” boy. John Grogan stated in his famous book Marley & Me, “A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.” Rogue is the definition of this dog. He is one of a kind and I only hope everyone can experience a dog like him at least once in their lives.
