Last week we lost our beloved Thad. Thad was a fixture of downtown Lawrence culture- one could say he truly embodied the spirit of LFK. He was an accomplished author, a spinner of stories, a warm light, a radiating glow. His kindness penetrated everything. His well of empathy, bottomless. Thad was one of the most genuine people one could know. His kindness and compassion were unmatched. Thad was renowned as a local Bartender, a kind shoulder to talk to and cry on. He was a longtime employee of Liberty Hall, The Burger Stand, Frank's North Star Tavern, The Replay Lounge, Brits, the Toy Store, a contributing writer at Sunflower Publishing and most importantly and most recently a Peer Counselor and Supportive Housing Case Manager at Bert Nash Community Health Center where his listening skills and empathy were no doubt at their zenith. Amongst other great things he dedicated his time to, Thad also served on the board of directors for the CARE Center- a non profit that helps victims of sexual abuse. Thad leaves behind his partner of more than 20 years, Danielle. To help with the funeral and other expenses- we ask that you give what you can to assist Danielle in rebuilding after the loss of her life partner. His loss is devastating to us all. If Thad served you a drink, if you worked with him, if he touched your life in some way, or if he was just a friendly face you ran into on Mass Street, I would like to invite you to his celebration of life. It will be held at Liberty Hall, 2:00 pm, on Saturday, August 12th. Let's make this a sold out show. (after Danielle's funeral expenses, etc additional proceeds will be donated to a memorial fund in Thad's name at the Sexual Trauma and Abuse Care Center)
