As some people already know, we found four puppies abandoned in Land Park at the end of May. We brought them home, cleaned them up, and cared for them for the next month while reaching out to rescues for adoption placement. It was immediately apparent that they were either Huskies, Malamutes, or a mix. Unfortunately these breeds already make up a large percentage of dogs in shelters in California, so we wanted to make sure they ended up in the best homes possible. Eventually we found Moonsong Malamute Rescue, based out of Idaho, and surrendered three puppies to them, all of whom have been adopted out to loving homes. We decided to keep one, the only girl, who we named Aza. Despite being the smallest and the only female, Aza never took any shit from her brothers. She was also the first to befriend our older dog Molly, and the two have formed an incredible bond over the past few months. Aza has a fierce little spirit. She is kind, joyful, intelligent, and courageous. Which brings me to the point of this fundraiser. We recently learned that Aza has a Vascular Ring Anomaly. This is a congenital condition where blood vessels from her heart have grown around her esophagus and trachea, pinching them off and barely allowing food and liquids to pass. It's something that happened in utero, and there is no way to prevent it. This is a very serious condition that can only be resolved by surgery. The good news is that the surgery has a 92% success rate. The bad news is that it costs over $15,000. We are getting the surgery for her. Time is of the essence, so it's already scheduled. However, $15,000 is a significant amount of money, and any donation that can ease the burden would be greatly appreciated. Seriously, if every person who ever told us how cute she was gave us $5, we'd be halfway to paying for it. I know money is tight, but ANYTHING you can give helps. She is truly the fiercest, sweetest little floof in the world, and we think she deserves a chance at life.
