All that you seek, seeks you. Those who know me personally, will attest to my firm belief in the above quote. If you can think it & dream it, it already is. Hi, I’m Nikhita Winkler, the first Namibian to make it to the semi-finals at the World Championship of Public Speaking (WCPS). My journey with Toastmasters began in 2019 in Windhoek, Namibia. When I relocated to Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic, I then transitioned to a virtual club, Leadership Speak, which is based in Canada, District 86. Having always identified as a global citizen, even I couldn’t have imagined being in the position to proudly represent 2 countries—Namibia & Canada, at the WCPS in the Bahamas from the 16th -19th August, 2024!. As a first-time competitor in the international speech contest, I have won at every level of the competition so far. For the next level, it is very important to me—especially as a performer—to compete in person and be in the presence of the audience. However, my income as a part-time English Teacher and Dancer cannot sufficiently afford to make this possible for me. Which is why I am now leaning on the popular African proverb: “…it takes a Village…” with hope that the multiple villages I am fortunate to be a part of will come together in helping empower me to focus on the competition without being distracted by the financial constraints. For the semifinal event, although my flight expenses have been covered by the organizers; transportation, accommodation, meals and the conference fees still reach an approximate total of $4 040(USD). In lieu of a generous gift of $2 000(USD), I am now left with a remainder of $2 040 (USD) to fundraise. Approximately € 1 870 . As a young visionary and ambitious woman who works with the youth, your help will extend far beyond myself. There's a reason I made it this far. Nothing that comes to me ends with me. I am certain that my experience as the first Namibian to make it to the world championship will inspire the dreams of many more Namibian youth after me. We have stories to unlock and voices to empower. And of course, I cannot do it alone because it takes a Village to help unlock my potential so that I can help others unlock theirs.
