Hi! My name is Iggy Mokriski, I’m 16 years old and this fall I will be starting my senior year of high school at Interlochen Arts Academy! I study classical composition at Interlochen, but that is just the beginning of the long list of artistic opportunities this wonderful school has offered me. Over my junior year, I had five original pieces of classical music performed, one of which involved collaborating with a choreographer and two dancers. I also wrote a wind ensemble arrangement of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” (performed at the Sounds of the Season concert). Furthermore, I scored a thesis film project that was screened at the end-of-year film festival, wrote and recorded an Acoustic Folk record, and played Alto, Tenor, and Bari saxophone in the Wind Symphony Orchestra. On top of this, and I am sure because of Interlochen's prestige, I won a scholarship to attend film and tv scoring workshops at NYU, which was a life-changing experience! Premier of my Wind Quintet piece “Pareidolia” Even though it is hard work going to Interlochen, my first year was a giant success. This was made possible by so many people that helped me last year, and I am really appreciative of everyone, I could not have done it without you. Now, and with your help, I hope to be able to continue learning new skills and experimenting as much as possible, so that I can develop my full potential as a composer and an artist. Starting this fall semester I will be shooting a short script that I’ve written over the summer, composing music for this project as well, and I will be working with a film major/one of my closest friends at school. I will also continue composing for the Composer's Forums, which are a fantastic opportunity to work with the best and most talented young musicians in the world. Finally, I will be honing my saxophone skills with the wonderful instructor Dr. Schlomer, playing with the Wind Symphony Orchestra. I am in the process of writing a large ensemble piece we hope to have performed at the end of the year by the Wind Symphony. Needless to say, I’m going to be busy. But I don’t want to miss a second of it! Music is my passion and music is everything to me, so any work that comes from it is only good work. Recording with the Budapest Symphony at NYU Now that school is only two months out I need your help. Through Interlochen’s financial aid program, we’ve managed to get a lot of support, but we are still short around 10,000 dollars to pay for tuition, flights, and an alto saxophone to play in the Wind Symphony Orchestra (by the way, if you have an alto saxophone collecting dust, I would be happy to put it to good use!) If you can support me in any way, me and my family will be endlessly grateful. It’s been a long, long road getting to where I am now and I don’t regret a minute of it. Every second I spent writing music after school when I was thirteen and had no idea what a symphony was yet, every second I spent working at my local pizza place saving up money and every second I’ve spent with the wonderful teachers I’ve been so lucky to have through my life has led to this year now. I could not be more excited to start this journey and I really appreciate all your help! Thanks so so much!
