My name is Christine Waddell. I’m a 6th grade teacher at Pike Central Middle School and like many of you, I have been following Robert’s Ride for nearly 10 years. I first came to know Robert as a vibrant and energetic little boy, full of life and spunk. Then, as most of you know, tragedy struck the Stephens family on October 10, 2013 when their son Robert was hit by a truck while he was riding his bicycle. Since that time he has been in Louisville battling a traumatic brain injury and his family has been traveling to and from to see and support him. His mom, Laura, graciously allowed friends, family and a large online community to share in their family’s journey through a Facebook page she lovingly named Robert's Ride. Through this page we gained a glimpse of their struggles, trials and triumphs, but most importantly, we were able to witness this family’s unending love for, and devotion to, Robert. Thank you Mike, Laura, and Erica for allowing us to be a part of your journey and for bringing awareness to traumatic brain injuries. Through this journey, as they never gave up hope, we joined them and prayed for a miracle for Robert. On July 3, 2024, almost 10 years after the accident, Robert gained his angel wings. The Stephens family has been an inspiration to our community as they have shared Robert's Ride. The endless trips to Louisville and compiling medical bills have taken a tremendous financial toll on this family. Followers of their journey, both near and far, can help to relieve some of this financial burden by donating to this fund. Rest assured your donation will support the Stephens family as they lay their son to rest, plan his celebration of life, and try to regain some financial footing. Please join me in helping to provide this last gift of love, as the hardest part of Robert’s Ride must surely be its end.
