Help us gather $2.5k to support Eli as they prepare to return to the U.S. after four years in their homeland, El Salvador. Unemployed, Eli left NYC in 2019; COVID-19 prolonged their stay. Upon arrival, they wrote gravedad, their first play, under the mentorship of Jorgelina Cerritos in San Salvador. It tells the story of Q, a trans* person, who returns to their native land after being outside home for a decade. Q arrives with a new body in a place, in a society, in a family that requests from them a body they no longer have. After four years, they are moving back to the U.S. to embark on graduate studies, where they will continue playwriting. Our offering will allow a smooth transition to lessen the economic burden of moving from a country where the difference in the cost of living is abysmal. Unlike most graduate students, they do not have monetary support from their family. On the contrary, they are the primary provider of their family: their well-being means the well-being of their family. Your donations will go towards: • Groceries and meals during the first weeks • Kitchen supplies and essentials • Costs of driver´s license • Moving costs • Travel costs Please donate to Eli's LFEBridge or @unxeli (venmo). Any amount helps Eli's return.
