Dear animal-loving friends & family: Our beloved French Bulldog, Sprout, has encountered a little hiccup on his journey of mischief and adventures. It turns out, he's got a bit of a ruff situation - a case of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)! This degenerative spinal disease, common in Dachshunds and French Bulldogs, allows for a disc to slip easily because of the lack of cushioning tissue between vertebrates. IVDD is a condition that can worsen overnight and cause severe nerve damage and extreme pain. Our little monkeyhead finds himself missing out on some of his favorite activities like... Scoring Goals Cub Scouts Intellectual Curiosities Maritime Leisure And so much more... We're doing everything we can to bring back his sparkle-filled eyes and infectious smile! Treatments include both medication therapy and surgery. After a few scary visits with veterinarians, we were referred to a neurologist at the Animal Medical Center, a non-profit academic veterinary hospital in New York City. Sprout's MRI confirmed a herniated disk in his neck (ouch!). An immediate surgical intervention was performed to remove the extruded disc material exerting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. Fortunately, there were no complications, and he handled the operation like the champ that he is. He will remain under veterinary care for several days. After the surgery, crate rest is recommended for 4-6 weeks. Veterinarians have assured us that with this surgery, he'll be strutting his stuff, finding sticks, and playing with his neighborhood friends again once he recovers! But, of course, this comes with a price tag. We, fortunately, received an amazing piece of advice when we adopted Sprout: pet insurance. Having a policy for Sprout has been absolutely one of the wisest decisions we could have made; however, diagnostics and treatment for this painful disease will exceed our annual limit by $5,600. We're reaching out to our fantastic community to help us raise the funds needed to get Sprout back up & about. Every wagging tail counts! If you can't donate, that's paw-sitively okay! You can still spread the word and share our fundraising campaign with your pack to get more eyes on this furry cause. Together, we can bring back the joy, laughter, and epic ball-chasing moments in the life of our furry son, Sprout. Let's help him get back on his paws and live his best doggo life! A thousand thanks from the bottom of our hearts for being paw-some heroes to Sprout! We'll keep you updated on Sprout's progress and the fantastic moments you helped bring back to his life. Doggy high-fives and slobbery kisses, Sam & Jeff
