One of our fantastic Wit's End crew members, Splash Gordon is going through a very rough time and we need your help. Splash needs a brace to help him walk. Here's the down low - He has acquired serious issues with the right stifle (knee). Due to degenerative issues in that joint, he tore the lateral ligaments while at play and suffers from his knee bowing out to the point he will be permanently debilitated. After being unfortunately misdiagnosed, it was time to go up to the University of Tennesse Large Animal Hospital for 2 weeks of diagnostics, observation and evaluation of surgery candidacy. The Veterinary Surgeon opted for 3 shockwave therapy sessions 2 weeks apart, supportive medication and stall rest. He then talked to me about the brace that he would have to wear for the rest of his life. Shockwave therapy is a very interesting alternative to surgery - "Shockwave therapy involves passing short, intense sound waves into damaged tissues, which increases blood flow, has an analgesic effect and stimulates the repair and regeneration process. The treatment puts the cells into repair mode and allows the body to restart its own accelerated healing process." Bionic Pets is creating a custom brace- These people are on a whole other level when it comes to debilitated animal care. From guinea pigs to elephants. He wouldn't be able to rejoin the herd for fear of him reinjuring himself and would still have to be in a contained space. For the rest of his life. But we have friends in caring places. Kay and Richard Williams of Frog Song Sanctuary in Hodges, SC is not only willing but, excited to have a star like Splash! They are fully set up for aged and debilitated animals. They have a wonderful, laid-back older herd so when he is ready, Splash will leave his suite and join them on a nice flat pasture. They have an amazing Llama savvy Vet, supervision in spades, who will be able to doff and don his brace as prescribed and keep a tight eye for any adjustments that need to be made. I sincerely would not trust anyone else to be responsible for Splash's 24-hour care. Please follow them @frogsongsanctuary The brass tacks- Wit's End is covering all of his medical expenses which will total about 5K. Frog Song has offered to fundraise for his Bionic Brace. But they are already doing so much and I just can't let them do that. So, that's why I am turning to you guys to help us get Splash to Frong Song with everything he will need. We can't thank you enough. Tracy
