Shhh!!! This is a surprise!!! My name is Wes and this year my mom turns 60. If you know her you know she always puts everyone else first and never thinks about taking care of herself. If she’s been in your life for any length of time she’s probably done something to make your day better, whether that’s bringing you a meal, buying you a drink, donating to your fundraiser, checking on your animals, offering you a ride, inviting you over for a backyard hangout, or any number of other things she does for people. She rarely does anything to treat herself, so for this birthday Emily and I thought it would be nice to surprise her with something big and repay a fraction of the kindness she shows everyone else! She's always felt a connection to her O’Connor heritage and has wanted to visit Ireland for as long as I can remember. When Emily and I took a vacation there last year with some friends we kept talking about how much she would have loved it and how fun it would be to take her. When we got home she was so excited to hear about every single detail of our trip, we thought the perfect gift would be for her friends and family to make her dream a reality and send her there! Emily and I plan on traveling with her but we’ll pay our own way. This fundraiser is entirely for her trip and all the proceeds will go to her. We don't have an exact dollar amount of what it will cost, but we estimated the goal based on what we spent for travel and hotel plus some extra for food, drinks, and souvenirs (and bail money in case she gets a little rowdy in one of the pubs). We don't have dates picked out (this will depend on her schedule and availability), but it will probably be sometime next year and we’ll share updates as we figure out the specifics. Please give whatever you’re comfortable with and leave a birthday message or some travel advice for her. This is going to be a surprise that we’ll share with her on her birthday (July 15th) so please don’t say anything before then! And don’t worry about making a donation immediately. We would love to have as much already in the account as possible when we show her, but we’re not booking anything now so we’ll continue collecting donations for a while after her birthday. No matter what you call her: Dawn, Mom, Mimi, Aunt Dawn, Wes’ Mom, etc. we’re all lucky to have her in our lives. Thank you so much for being a part of this birthday surprise!
