(Edited November 1st. - )Our Skyler is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd. On Tuesday, October 20th a car speeding down the road hit him, severely injuring both of his legs. Skyler’s left hind leg was completely degloved and he had multiple fractures. Our choices Tuesday morning were proceeding with a difficult surgery to put together his leg (plate, screws, extensive physical therapy) or amputation. The cost estimates were $9,000 for the inital vist, treatment, procedures, and follow up visits. They do not offer any payment options and had to be paid upfront. It took him 30 hours to become stable in the Animal Hospital. At that time they gave us the esimates for his intake and surgery. The total esimate for both his initial visit, overnight care, and surgery was going to be around $9,000. I just didn't have that kind of cash in the bank and could only afford the $3000 to get him transported to another orthopedic surgion. His cost was much lower but still was more than I could afford. He suggested that we try to save his leg that would require daily procedres. Although those fees were around a couple of hundered dollars daily we wanted to give it our best shot. After a few days we found that he was not getting blood to his leg and it was dieing. We had to move forward with the amputation. Thankfully this Dr. was willing to help us with payment options. With your help we can make this difficult and painful situation a bit easier. Your contributions are gratefully appriciated.
